Growth Proportionate Seating is about utilising key points of control for postural alignment, relevant to whatever age or size the child may be. Along with the postural and therapeutic aspects, we all recognise that children with special needs and their families need to be able to get out and about, have fun, and enjoy life together in the process of learning and growing up. To this end we have developed a "no fuss" easy to use seating and mobility system that is lightweight, ultra-adaptable and can be used with a variety of mobility bases.
The GPS system is available in two formats: GPS and GPS Plus. The standard GPS seat will suit the majority of children, and has the most extensive range of seating options available. The alternative GPS Plus seat has been developed with a height adjustable backrest and provision for attaching a multi-positionable headrest assembly, for children with more involved seating needs.
Most of the adjustments on the GPS sytem are made in increment steps, rather than variable adjustments. For instance, the backrest angle is adjusted in 5° settings, seat base depth in 12.5 mm (1/2") settings, the footplate height in 6 mm (1/4") settings, and the seat tilt in 3° increments. The purpose of these settings is to provide an intensely accurate form of seating, that cannot go out of adjustment through being accidentally bumped or inadvertently altered by care givers. for some children the difference of a few degrees, or minute changes in support, can mean the difference between maintaining seating stability and losing it.
